Home sales in high-end U.S. zip codes

While total U.S. home sales fell about 13.7 percent in the first half of this year, activity declined less or even increased in many high-end zip codes.
Sales during the first half of 2011 dipped just 2.8 percent from last year in a group of 176 U.S. zip codes that meet a rough definition of “high-end” – their median sale prices were $800,000 or more over the past two years. Nearly 45 percent of these relatively affluent zip codes saw sales rise in the first half of this year compared with last, according to San Diego-based DataQuick, which tracks home sales nationally.
The table below shows 30 high-end zip codes nationally
that had the largest year-over-year sales gains.
Note:
The table contains only zip codes that saw 20 or more sales over the
last two years, in areas where DataQuick has coverage and where the sales data
were current enough.
Includes sales of new and resale single-family detached
houses as well as attached condos. Data based on public property records.
